To Philly. Ahhh, Philadelphia in November, it's what dreams are made of. I've never been there so I've been asking around to find out what things we shouldn't miss while we're there. So far I've got the marketplace thing where we will go and buy expensive Artesian (I know) foods, a brunch place, and what could be the holy grail/mecca of my lifetime - the Mutter Museum of Medical Oddities.

In other news, I've set my location as "surface road and interstate 93" which to my best estimation is actually a methadone clinic under a bridge. Party time!

Surface Rd & Counter person at Pick-n-Pull junkyard in Auburn, NY.
2. Dog walker for DoggieDay who I had to threaten with legal action to get my last paycheck after I quit by handing over keys to 30 different apartments in Back Bay and saying 'I'm done'.
3. Waitress at Cheers. (No! I DON'T KNOW your fucking name!!!)
4. Machine operator at Tessy Plastics. We made cell phones and plastic speculums
Four movies I can watch over and over shortened to two because I hate movies.
I make the claim that I hate movies when the truth is I really just hate the feeling of being trapped while watching them. When I sit down to watch something, usually at Guy's urging, I have mild to moderate anxiety until the plot gets going a little bit and I can decide whether or not this is really something I can commit to. After the halfway mark the anxiety gears up again and I start wondering when it's over - even if I enjoy it - and I have to check the run time. The following are no exception:
1. Beetlejuice
2. Idiocracy

Four places I have lived in no particular order.
1. Conquest, NY in an old farmhouse on 40 acres. Our mailing address was Port Byron but we were in the Weedsport school district.
2. Cortland, NY for one month until I realized I didn't want to get a job and pay my own rent so I moved back in with my parents and went back to school so I could take Tropical Field Biology (again) and go to the Cayman Islands for 3 college credits.
3. Fall River, MA. This was a shortsighted move. I chose this place before I started law school because of the price and the pet-friendliness. Six months in I was woken by the sound of a gunshot at 2am. I looked out the window and saw two dudes running down the street and the cops showed up minutes later. I moved two weeks later.
4. Boston,MA. Meh.
Four TV shows I love
1. "Morning Joe" .
2. "Maury"
3. "Project Runway"
4. "Bringing Home Baby" even though it's ALL LIES.
Four places I've vacationed
1. Grand Cayman
2. Paris
3. Toronto - all the time when I lived in Upstate NY - it's about a 3.5 hour ride.
4. Shelby,NC -Mom & Dad's house.
Four of my favorite dishes
1. Pizza made by my <del></del>
chef
husband Guy.
2. Trader Joe's Jaipur Vegetables.
3. any kind of stir fry with tempeh.
4. Taco Bell cheesy bean and rice burritos.
Four sites I visit daily
1. What Would Tyler Durden Do?
2. not that you asked...
3. dooce
4. facebook
Four places I would rather be right now
1. The driver's seat of my first car - a 1973 Volvo 144
2. My senior year of high school. Channel 53 (MSNBC, natch) is ALWAYS on, and we mourned the absence of our beloved Mika and Joe during both the Olympics and the incessant coverage of The Impending Doom of Well Really It Wasn't Sooo Bad Hurricane Gustav. I'm not going get into most things political here because if I did it would quickly deteriorate into lots of fucks and whores and goddamns and reallys? and if anyone wanted to hear that they could just sit outside my livingroom window for an hour.

However, I can't sit mute after witnessing the grave, grave transgression that was Cindy McCain's outfit on the first day of the Republican National Convention. See Exhibit A. Something something cripes lady wtf?? My just-barely ten month old little boy is WALKING. I no longer have an infant. I'm a mom to a TODDLER. Granted, he's not a full time toddler just yet but it certainly isn't for lack of trying. The living room is on full lockdown - double gates, plastic electrical outlet plugs, creative use of linking rings keeping the doors to the tv stand closed - yeah, it's like that. Silas has a bottomless reserve of energy and I am so thankful I have Guy here to help. I missed the eligibility mark to sit for the MA bar so I have to retake the mpre. Blah. I scored high enough to take RI, but we're moving back to Boston and I'm not interested in taking a bar exam in august then taking another in feb.

In more exciting (?) news, the Sizzler has TWO teeth coming in -- poor thing. WTF. i'm scouring forums to try to figure this out -- why it shows on the computer when i check it, but doesn't on the ds.

so, instead of replaying what i've probably lost, i'm going to start a new title.

ahh -- instant gratification. i'm gonna get you, dracula.

btw, i want to go to ikea for new dishes. guy thinks we need more than 3 plates --what's his deal???

in re: a step in the right direction?

Three days ago I started to post about how productive I had been. I was so productive I forgot to finish the post, and here it is:

So far today I have done two loads of laundry, written checks for the bills, arranged to have the wagon fixed, and subjected my baby to 'tummy time'. Sounds productive, right?

Wow. I did a lot. However, the thing I failed to mention was that the laundry is still sitting in the dryer, and in the mean time I'm now more than five loads behind, and the bills still haven't been mailed out. The bills are arguably the most important, right? You would think I'm not worried about the interest rates on the credit card jumping 20% or the lights being shut off or even more terrifying, the cable.

I'm annoyed today because I have a memo due at 6 for a class and I couldn't care less about the subject matter so I'm having a hell of a time trying to muster up enough to say about it to fill the page requirement.

onward.

in re: the law as labor.

I'm Sarah.
I'm in law school. My third year, in fact. I've wanted to be a lawyer as long as I can remember. I've also wanted to be the type of person to stay on top of things like dishes, laundry, vacuuming, brushing the cats, showering, throwing away old food, not letting food rot in the fridge, sending thank you notes and Christmas cards, returning phone calls, exercising, eating better, and a multitude of other things that don't need mentioning. I have told myself for years that as soon as I finish law school I will be that person who has neatly pressed shirts and suits, and I will enjoy wearing them everyday and going to work everyday.

I'm due to graduate in four months. I have one pair of pants that fit me and I wear them everyday.

If it's any indication of how irresponsible I still am, and how unlikely I am to be magically transformed into this uber-adult, I am currently in class, for which I have not read, typing as qiuetly as possible while the professor tells a story NO ONE would expect me to be taking notes on.

I think it's safe to say that, at 30 years of age (!!), I am who I am, and I won't be changing into a mega-lawyer anytime soon, and I need to come to terms with it. Which is what I'm doing.

It doesn't help that I have a fantastically amazing new roommate at home that occupies all my waking thoughts and energies! My little mister is now three months old, and it feels like he's been here my whole life.

Could you go to work and leave this little dude behind?
Ugh.
